The offshores are light and the water is turquoise blue, clear enough to see zebra striped sand on the bottom. Head high peaks scatter the shoreline. In a photo it would seem warm and inviting, a beach possibly somewhere in the Caribbean. But the reality is much different. The penguins on the beach give away the true temperature. And the photos don’t tell of the extreme winds and rain that ravage this island regularly.
