- The Arctic's Most Desirable Waves
Cradle of Storms
In November I traveled in a rickety prop plane to a remote island in the Aleutian archipelago with Alex Gray, Pete Devries, Josh Mulcoy, and Chris Burkard. The island had no paved roads, so we planned to explore the coast on 4-wheelers. We were concerned that the region’s notorious storms would crush our hopes and send us back empty-handed. But when we arrived, we were stunned by the story that unravelled.
The story featured on the cover of SURFER Magazine’s April issue and SURFER produced a film that I shot and co-directed with Bryce Lowe-White. Over the last month the film has been premiering around the US.
The Aleutian islands inspired me to start Arctic Surf four years ago, with the question, “What if some of the best waves exist in the coldest and most distant regions of the planet?” I feel fortunate to be a part of the team, very grateful to work on projects like this, and I’m excited to share the film.
